2010 Twins Preview

The Minnesota Twins opened up Target Field with a bang yesterday, beating the Red Sox 5-2 and ushering in the open-air era.  The end of the Metrodome has BSG wondering though; are these still the loveable, blue-collar Twins of old?  One things for sure, with Mauer, Morneau, Nathan, and now Jim Thome, the Twins have the star-power, and perhaps the swagger, to make some noise in the AL this year.  Enjoy!

BSG with the Giants

Well folks we're just 5 days out from Opening Day, and we hope you're as excited as BSG is for the start of the season.  Thankfully, the offseason gave him a chance to heal from leg injuries incurred while imitating San Francisco Giant Eugenio Velez.  A word to the wise, stretch first.  Filmed last year for G-Mag, here's BSG with Velez, the Panda, and the rest of the feel-good 09 Giants.  Enjoy!

BSG breaks down the new Red Sox

While down in Tampa for RaysFest, BSG caught up with our friends from Boston, the good people at WEEI.  They asked for his take on the new sluggers they'll be seeing in Red Sox uniforms this year.  So here they all are, in all their pre-Fenway innocence, Bill Hall, Mike Cameron, Marco Scutaro, Jeremy Hermida and Adrian Beltre.  Enjoy!

Francisco Cabrera’s Pinch-Hit Single

Remember when the Pirates' went to 3 consecutive NLCS's... and lost all 3? In 1992, this Francisco Cabrera pinch-hit single ended that run, the Bonds era in Pittsburgh, and the Pirates' relevance in major league baseball for the next 2 decades. Quite a hit. Enjoy!

Paul O’Neill’s Punt

Steve Jeltz still can't believe he stayed on third for this one.  Still gotta be one of the best game sheet paragraphs of all time.  Straight from the baseball bloopers Hall of Fame, it's Paul O'Neill's 1989 left-footed punt to the infield.  Enjoy.

BSG’s Who To Watch : AL West

Why the AL West now you may ask.  The Angels clinched days ago, Texas is done for the year, and all eyes are fixed firmly on the AL Central race.  Plus, didn't you guys already post the AL MVP Candidates?  The short answer here folks is that there's not really too much method to the madness.  But we also figured you might be looking for reasons to watch the last few games out west this season.  So catch these guys before the weekend's over.

Magglio Ordoñez’s 2006 ALCS-ending HR

We got a good one going in Detroit folks.  Yesterday the Twins and Tigers split the doubleheader to keep the Tigers 2 up.  Today they start the 2nd half of their 4-game series at Comerica.  The evening win for the Tigers yesterday was thanks in large part to a 2 run scoring double from a guy who's done it before for em.  Have a look at the shot Magglio Ordonez hit in the 2006 ALCS to sweep the A's and take the Tigers to their first World Series in over 20 years.

Justin Verlander’s No-Hitter

Tonight the Twins and Tigers kick-off a four game series in Detroit that will most likely decide the AL Central.  With neither team in wild card contention, the stakes are high.  The good people of motown gotta feel good about this one being a home series.  Tomorrow night, they'll feel even better if Justin Verlander has an outing like June 12th, 2007.  BSG is here to help your remember it.

We're gonna go out on a limb and say the Dodgers take the NL West.  So to help get folks in a LA state of mind for the postseason, here's a little gem from 2006. Back to Back to Back to Back, and then Nomar walked off.  Sure, only Martin remains, but we think this bunch still has what it takes.  Enjoy!

BSG’s Who To Watch : AL MVP Candidates

Here they are folks, the big time players of the 2009 American League.  Some you've met and know well.  Some are new faces on the scene (Kendry Morales we're looking at you).  Some we'll be seeing in October, and others... well not so much (Sorry Ben Zobrist and the Rays, we filmed this a couple weeks ago).  But for now, in this moment, they're all right here in this week's Who To Watch.  Enjoy!
