The 1986 New York Mets

The 1986 New York Mets

The Mets had a rough weekend, losing the subway series to the Yanks and ending their 7 game road winning streak.  And to add insult to injury, Johan Santana managed to tie the Mets’ single season record of 3 allowed grand slams in the process.  Ouch.  But fear not Mets fans, BSG is here to ease your pain with memories of times not so long ago.  So here they are, fresh out of 1986, the World Champion New York Mets.

Questions from my Daughters for Drew Storen

Questions from my Daughters for Drew Storen

Last night the Washington Nationals drafted 17 yr old hitting golden boy, Bryce Harper, 1st overall.  Tonight, in a story receiving almost no media attention, the Nats pitching prospect phenom (say that 3 times fast) Stephen Strasburg, takes the mound for the 1st time.  Big news for sure, but the Washington rookie drafted after Strasburg last year (and called up first), Drew Storen, is the first of those 3 to play Questions From My Daughters with BSG, sooooo…… what’s bigger?

REPLAY : Well Nats fans, you may have missed a Strasburg start last night, but we’ve got the next best thing… it’s BSG at your park!  So come out to Nationals Park tonight to see BSG on the field for pre-game, and bring a copy of your book (you have bought it right) to have the stance-master himself sign it.  Who knows, maybe he’ll play questions from his daughters with you.

Classic Mets for SNY.tv

Classic Mets for SNY.tv

Last week while BSG was in NYC for Book Week, he got a chance to swing by the SNY.tv studios, the masters of all things sport in the big apple.  The good folks there had him on, what else, The Baseball Show, to breakdown some famous NYC batters.  So here are your classic Mets.  Enjoy!

2010 Reds

2010 Reds

Just to prove that we haven’t forgotten our roots now that we’re big time published authors, today we continue on with our team “preview” series.  We’ll kick things off with the Reds, who, as BSG notes, haven’t seen a winning season since 2000.  But things are looking up in Cincy these days, and partially thanks to the stance magic of Brandon Phillips, the Reds currently find themselves only a game back of the mighty Cardinals.  In a preview that takes an equal look at fertility and baseball, here are the 2010 Reds.  Enjoy!

2010 Rockies

2010 Rockies

From the way things have started out there, whoever comes outta the NL West this year is gonna have to win a fight.  Will it be the Rockies?  Gammonds and Reynolds like em, but does BSG?  He got an inside look at the rocky mountain boys last year, but, as usual, it’s the lineup that interests him most.  And for our daily reader Don Baylor, he’s got a couple suggestions on how to manage your hitters.  It’s the 2010 Rockies.

Everyone’s gearing up for the start of the Philles-Braves series tonight, and the showdown between Ryan Howard and his young counterpart, the rookie phenom force that is Jason Heyward.   BSG is excited about what’s going on in the ATL this season too.  The combo of the Heyward sensation, the final season for Bobby Cox, and a birthday shout-out from Ron Gant, have him making some rare post-season predictions for the perennial NL power.  Find out what they are in his 2010 Braves Preview.  Enjoy!

2010 Brewers Preview

2010 Brewers Preview

Last year BSG got a chance to visit Miller Park, have a stance-off with Prince Fielder, and imitate the Brewers for the Brewers in their stretching circle.  So you’ll excuse him if he has a special place in his heart for Milwaukee.  Not to mention, the sausage race may be the best thing going in between-inning entertainment in all of baseball.  For your weekend, here’s the 2010 preview of the brew-crew.  Enjoy!

2010 Giants Preview

2010 Giants Preview

Aubrey Huff’s inside-the-park HR yesterday put the capper on the Giants’ hot start to the 2010 season.  BSG will miss the presence of Carney Lansford on the SF coaching staff, but he loves the stances he leaves behind.  Sandoval, Velez, Rowand – all gold.  Will this treasure trove of batter’s box goodness have the hits to go with the rotation?  If so, get ready for alot of Tony Bennett AT&T Park.  Enjoy!

2010 Phillies Preview

2010 Phillies Preview

Will Jayson Werth’s spring training beard and the addition of Placido Polanco be enough to get the Phils to their 3rd straight World Series appearance?  BSG likes the lineup.  And with big Mr. Howard still hitting the long ball, and Utley, Victorino, and the rest of the gang still in place, it’d be hard to bet against em.  Here’s the Phillies 2010 preview, Enjoy!

BSG with the Giants

BSG with the Giants

Well folks we’re just 5 days out from Opening Day, and we hope you’re as excited as BSG is for the start of the season.  Thankfully, the offseason gave him a chance to heal from leg injuries incurred while imitating San Francisco Giant Eugenio Velez.  A word to the wise, stretch first.  Filmed last year for G-Mag, here’s BSG with Velez, the Panda, and the rest of the feel-good 09 Giants.  Enjoy!

Remember when the Pirates’ went to 3 consecutive NLCS’s… and lost all 3? In 1992, this Francisco Cabrera pinch-hit single ended that run, the Bonds era in Pittsburgh, and the Pirates’ relevance in major league baseball for the next 2 decades. Quite a hit. Enjoy!

Steve Jeltz still can’t believe he stayed on third for this one.  Still gotta be one of the best game sheet paragraphs of all time.  Straight from the baseball bloopers Hall of Fame, it’s Paul O’Neill’s 1989 left-footed punt to the infield.  Enjoy.

We’re gonna go out on a limb and say the Dodgers take the NL West.  So to help get folks in a LA state of mind for the postseason, here’s a little gem from 2006. Back to Back to Back to Back, and then Nomar walked off.  Sure, only Martin remains, but we think this bunch still has what it takes.  Enjoy!
