Been a rough week for the Tampa Bay Rays, but they’ll try and stop the bleeding as they look to avoid the sweep vs. the Padres this afternoon.  If not, Evan Longoria won’t be able to cheer himself up with a Starbucks Lemon Loaf.  What else does he not like? Find out in Questions From BSG’s Daughters.

Questions from BSG’s Daughters with Carlos Pena

Questions from BSG’s Daughters with Carlos Pena

After the Yanks defeat at the hands of the D-Backs last night, the Rays will look to reclaim a share of the best record in the league tonight as they take on the NL West leading San Diego Padres.  The Rays will have many questions to answer down the stretch about their ability to hang in the brutal AL East, but first Carlos Pena has to answer questions from BSG’s daughters.

Tampa Bay Rays slugger, Carlos Pena, recently ended a 6 game HR streak, coming just 2 games shy of the MLB record held by Dale Long, Don Mattingly, and the recently retired, Ken Griffey Jr.  It was the 2nd biggest moment of his 2010 season, as just a few months earlier, to his great surprise, he got to play Who Knows You Better with the Batting Stance Guy.  It’s been a big year for Carlos, its been a real big year.

BSG with the A’s

BSG with the A’s

If you’ve read his book, then you know BSG is a bay area native.  If not, Amazon’s got plenty of copies of A Love Letter to Baseball just waiting for you to enjoy!  So it was quite the homecoming last week when BSG took the field at Oakland Coliseum to chat it up with the A’s.  Only slightly less interesting to the crowd than the post-game fireworks, BSG was still able to talk stances with Andrew Bailey and Daric Barton.  Enjoy!

2010 Rangers

2010 Rangers

The Rangers looked good in their first test against prominent division rivals, the Oakland A’s, winning the series this week 2-1.  And as they head up to Toronto today to challenge the mighty Blue Jays, BSG takes a look at what makes this such a great stance team.  With the Angels on the decline, C.J. Wilson getting things done on the mound, and Hamilton, Kinsler, and Cruz at the plate, might this be the year the Rangers add a 2nd win to their postseason journal?  Or is it just the year you buy a book about batting stances?  Either way, it’s the 2010 Rangers.

2010 Indians Preview

How many weeks into the season will calling these things previews start to sound ridiculous?  We gotta be getting close.  Man how bout that game 2 last night Cleveland?  You need an elbow repair STAT!  Here’s hoping the good people of Cleveland still have several weeks left of pulling for the Cavs.  Oh, and not completely unrelated to that, here are the 2010 Indians.  Enjoy!

2010 Tigers Preview

2010 Tigers Preview

BSG’s worries that Magglio Ordonez stored his mojo in his jheri curl mullet were calmed yesterday as Mags got his 2,000th career hit in a win over the Twins.  Those two seemed to have picked back up right where they left off last year in the AL Central, which should mean another fun battle for all of us.  BSG likes the Detroit lineup, and, like the rest of the world, thinks the Damon addition will probably help.  But he still misses that jheri curl. Enjoy!

2010 Mariners Preview

Fun fact for the day: today in 1986 Roger Clemens struck out 20 Mariners.  The M’s are lookin better in 2010 though, and after a pre-season cover appearance on ESPN The Magazine, they’re the trendy pick in the AL West.  Maybe folks are just sick of the Angels taking it, who knows.  If you’re not familiar with the new Seattle lineup, BSG doesn’t miss a one.  Here are your 2010 Seattle Mariners.  Enjoy!

2010 Rays Preview

2010 Rays Preview

So we swear we recorded this before the Rays had the best record in baseball, but even if you don’t believe us, they do, and we did, so lets get on it with it.  BSG likes him some Rays.  He likes that it would feel as natural to see Madden at a Coldplay concert as in the dugout at Tropicana.  He likes that they’ve got a roster brimming with young talent.  He likes that, in the toughest division in baseball, they’ve come outta the gates red hot.  Does that have anything to do with the fact that they gave him his own jersey?  You decide.  The 2010 Rays.

2010 Angels Preview

Fresh off his career 1000th hit, BSG takes a look at Hideki Matsui and the rest of the 2010 Angels.  Just how does Mike Scioscia keep this club at the top of the AL West and competing in the playoffs year after year?  BSG isn’t sure, but he loves the lineup and the fact that the All-Star game will be in Anaheim this year.  Enjoy your 2010 Angels!

2010 Blue Jays Preview

As the Blue Jays look to Twitter to solve their attendance problem at SkyDome, BSG looks to Toronto’s past to help get their fans in the mood for the 2010 season.  The AL East is a tough place to live, so why mess with analyzing current rosters when we can hop in the Wayback Machine and visit the magical year of 1998, and a lineup too good to be true.  Enjoy!

2010 White Sox Preview

2010 White Sox Preview

If there’s a better collection of stances in MLB this year, BSG can’t find it.  In fact he dares you, nay, DOUBLE-DOG dares you to name a better group of batter’s box antics than what they have going on in Chicago this season.  The 2010 White Sox are just loaded; Quentin, Beckham, Pierre, Konerko, Alexei, Teahen, Vizquel, the list goes on and on.  So here they are, your 2010 White Sox.  Enjoy!

2010 Twins Preview

2010 Twins Preview

The Minnesota Twins opened up Target Field with a bang yesterday, beating the Red Sox 5-2 and ushering in the open-air era.  The end of the Metrodome has BSG wondering though; are these still the loveable, blue-collar Twins of old?  One things for sure, with Mauer, Morneau, Nathan, and now Jim Thome, the Twins have the star-power, and perhaps the swagger, to make some noise in the AL this year.  Enjoy!

They kicked off the 2010 season in style tonight at Fenway.  America’s two most beloved/hated teams are at it again, and BSG is here to get you up-to-date on the stances to watch for in this year’s rendition of their age-old rivalry.  Enjoy.

Magglio Ordoñez’s 2006 ALCS-ending HR

Magglio Ordoñez’s 2006 ALCS-ending HR

We got a good one going in Detroit folks.  Yesterday the Twins and Tigers split the doubleheader to keep the Tigers 2 up.  Today they start the 2nd half of their 4-game series at Comerica.  The evening win for the Tigers yesterday was thanks in large part to a 2 run scoring double from a guy who’s done it before for em.  Have a look at the shot Magglio Ordonez hit in the 2006 ALCS to sweep the A’s and take the Tigers to their first World Series in over 20 years.
