There’s really no good reason Manny Ramirez should ever be chasing a wiffle ball bat for someone, we don’t know why he did it for us, but he did. Thanks Manny. The AP says what this is better than we could. “Gar Ryness is known as the ‘Batting Stance Guy’. He does impressions of major leaguers in their batting stances. Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez loved his mimickry.” “Loved” is a relative term. Enjoy.

Is there anything sexier than the chest hair of David Wells? Batting Stance Guy gives him a run for the money today as he takes the form of some of the best chest-bearing players to ever half-wear a MLB jersey. Get this and many other lists of silly baseball goodness in the one book written to glorify such things. Enjoy!

The Yankees and Dodgers kickoff an interleague series for the ages tonight in LA. Will Torre and Girardi let it be a free-swinging affair for their clubs? If so, we could see some other hitters join this group. It’s Batting Stance Guy with the All-Strikeout Team. Enjoy!
24. June 2010
Been a rough week for the Tampa Bay Rays, but they’ll try and stop the bleeding as they look to avoid the sweep vs. the Padres this afternoon. If not, Evan Longoria won’t be able to cheer himself up with a Starbucks Lemon Loaf. What else does he not like? Find out in Questions From BSG’s Daughters.
23. June 2010
When you’re trying to imitate stances for all of baseball, it helps to talk to someone who’s been around. Enter Hard Hittin’ Mark Whiten, who played for 8 MLB teams in his illustrious career. BSG took some time at spring training in Tampa this year to talk stances with the journeyman slugger. Enjoy!
22. June 2010
After the Yanks defeat at the hands of the D-Backs last night, the Rays will look to reclaim a share of the best record in the league tonight as they take on the NL West leading San Diego Padres. The Rays will have many questions to answer down the stretch about their ability to hang in the brutal AL East, but first Carlos Pena has to answer questions from BSG’s daughters.

In this week’s rendition of the Week in Review, BSG takes a look at the “stop-action-pose,” and who’s doing it best. And he had some heavy contenders this week with things like Adrian Beltre’s falldown blast over the Green Monster. But in the end, Hanley Ramirez takes the cake. BSG explains why. It’s the Week In Review!

The Mets had a rough weekend, losing the subway series to the Yanks and ending their 7 game road winning streak. And to add insult to injury, Johan Santana managed to tie the Mets’ single season record of 3 allowed grand slams in the process. Ouch. But fear not Mets fans, BSG is here to ease your pain with memories of times not so long ago. So here they are, fresh out of 1986, the World Champion New York Mets.

As interleague play plunges onward, the Tampa Bay Rays take their best-record-in-baseball up against the NL East leading Atlanta Braves as they try to win the series tonight. Rays fans will be hoping for a repeat of Evan Longoria’s 3 RBI Tueday night outing this evening. But first, he’s got the ultimate challenge before him. It’s Who Knows you Better with the Batting Stance Guy.
16. June 2010
Tampa Bay Rays slugger, Carlos Pena, recently ended a 6 game HR streak, coming just 2 games shy of the MLB record held by Dale Long, Don Mattingly, and the recently retired, Ken Griffey Jr. It was the 2nd biggest moment of his 2010 season, as just a few months earlier, to his great surprise, he got to play Who Knows You Better with the Batting Stance Guy. It’s been a big year for Carlos, its been a real big year.

In honor of the Boston Celtics, and their chance at an NBA title tonight, BSG brings you another group of champions from Beantown. So here they are, the curse-ending, Yankee-beating, Cardinal-dominating, World Champion, 2004 Boston Red Sox. In under a minute.

Coming late to the party on a Monday evening, it’s the MLB Week in Review, Week 10 edition. This one’s for the kids, as BSG takes a look at the youth of the baseball nation. It was a big week for the Nationals youth, with Bryce Harper, Strasburg, and our buddy , Drew Storen on the scene. And even the US – England World Cup match couldn’t top the Daniel Nava, rags to riches story. It’s the Week-In-Review!

It’s not likely that you’ll get face-time with one of the 50 greatest batters of your lifetime. It’s even less likely that you’ll have recently been allowed to write abook about such a subject and get to show that batter his chapter in your book. And it’s way way less likely that you’ll compare that batter to Pedro Cerrano as you hand him a copy of said book. But when BSG meets Jim Thome, we’d expect nothing less.

If you’ve read his book, then you know BSG is a bay area native. If not, Amazon’s got plenty of copies of A Love Letter to Baseball just waiting for you to enjoy! So it was quite the homecoming last week when BSG took the field at Oakland Coliseum to chat it up with the A’s. Only slightly less interesting to the crowd than the post-game fireworks, BSG was still able to talk stances with Andrew Bailey and Daric Barton. Enjoy!

14K’s. Not a bad start. But was the stance better? You be the judge.
8. June 2010
Last night the Washington Nationals drafted 17 yr old hitting golden boy, Bryce Harper, 1st overall. Tonight, in a story receiving almost no media attention, the Nats pitching prospect phenom (say that 3 times fast) Stephen Strasburg, takes the mound for the 1st time. Big news for sure, but the Washington rookie drafted after Strasburg last year (and called up first), Drew Storen, is the first of those 3 to play Questions From My Daughters with BSG, sooooo…… what’s bigger?
7. June 2010
Stop us if you’ve heard this one, but apparently something went down in Detroit this week involving a pitcher, an umpire, and a 28 out Perfect Game. Well BSG wants to chime in too, so for his take on the Galarraga/Joyce debacle, and the rest of the news from the 9th week of the 2010 season, here’s the Week-In-Review!

Sorry for the delay on the weekly review folks. What can we say, even BSG enjoys a good Memorial Day in Tahoe. But we’ve got you covered on all the past week’s top stories from around the league. Be it Buster Posey jumpstarting the Giants’ offense, Mr. Perfection himself, Roy Halladay, going for the 2nd perfect game in a matter of weeks, or the marriage of his cousin Libby Frantz, BSG’s on the case. Enjoy!

TRANSLATE VIDEO AND WIN A SIGNED COPY OF THE BSG BOOK!!
The other week BSG made an appearance on the LA-based Japanese network, UTB Hollywood. He had a great time, and the segment looks wonderful, but our Japanese is, well… rusty. Sure we could use Google Translate, but we thought we’d turn to the BSG community to help us out. So be the first to post a transcript comment on this site following the guidelines on the page, and we’ll send you a signed copy of A Love Letter to Baseball. Sound good? Then get translating!

Yesterday BSG made a media assault on the Bay Area, visiting most every sports broadcasting crew in SF to talk about his new book, A Love Letter to Baseball. He started the day off with KNBR 680 and our good friends at the Murph and Mac Show. You’re probably thinking that batting stances don’t play that well on the radio, and you wouldn’t be wrong. Thankfully they had the wherewithal to take some video. P.S. if you get the chance to visit, they like the chocolate old-fashioned’s. Enjoy!
27. May 2010
Just finished a rainy day game at AT&T park where the Giants got something like 5 singles in a row in the 7th to takedown the Washington Nationals 5-4 and win the series 2-1. It’s been a Nationals kinda week for BSG, so we figured we’d the keep the ball rolling with a little pre-game stance discussion with the MASN crew. Enjoy!
26. May 2010
BSG will be in the San Francisco Bay Area tomorrow (more on that later) where the Giants are currently taking on Ryan Zimmerman and the Washington Nationals. He recently got a chance to sit down with Zimmerman to play a round of “Who Knows you Best.” So if you like the sound of two men drinking Gatorade, and obscure questions and answers with MLB All-Stars, then this interview’s for you. Enjoy!
