There’s really no good reason Manny Ramirez should ever be chasing a wiffle ball bat for someone, we don’t know why he did it for us, but he did. Thanks Manny. The AP says what this is better than we could. “Gar Ryness is known as the ‘Batting Stance Guy’. He does impressions of major leaguers in their batting stances. Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez loved his mimickry.” “Loved” is a relative term. Enjoy.

Because they really needed some extra attention (and cause BSG just thinks they have by far the most interesting lineup of stances), here are the 2008 playoff Red Sox for your enjoyment. If you have issue with the selection, make your argument here for one of the other remaining lineups, we’d love to hear what people think.

What can be said about such a lineup? Al Hrabosky, Mike Piazza, Rod Beck… these aren’t just great players, they’re true masters of the art of facial hair. For book week BSG wanted to pull out all the stops, so, for the first time in internet history, here is the complete 1st Team All Fu Manchu Lineup, in UNDER A MINUTE!!

To say BSG was “at” ESPN today, might be something of an understatement. He was all over it for book release day. The good folks in Bristol, CT took care of our boy all day long as he stopped by First Take, ESPNEWS, SportsNation, and SportsCenter with John Kruk. These are still airing in various fashions on the Worldwide Leader, so check their schedule now. We’ve captured the day in image form on the facebook fanpage, and you can checkout the online SportsNation chat here. And there are still SportsCenter broadcasts to come. Whew, what a day.

Folks, it’s book week here at BSG headquarters, and we’re pretty darn excited about it. So just for you, the BSG faithful, we’re gonna be rolling out a series of facial-hair inspired lineups all week long. What does facial hair have to do with a book you may ask? Well you’ll just have to check out the Jeff Bagwell chapter in Love Letter to find out. Did we mention it’s also shameless plug week? It’s the 1st team All-Mustache lineup. Enjoy!

In case you’ve missed all the hullabaloo we’ve been making about it over on facebook and twitter, BSG has a new facebook game out called Guess That Stance! We hope that the name is pretty self-explanatory, but in case not, it’s a batting stance guessing game that allows you to track your stats and challenge your friends. So go head to head with the master of the stance and challenge yourself to a round of GUESS THAT STANCE!!

There comes a point in a man’s life when he has to be comfortable with big, athletic, grown men vigorously stretching in a circle around him while he does goofy little impressions of them and their colleagues for amusement. The court jester lives by one rule: keep the court laughing. Fortunately for us the Rockies all have pretty good senses of humor. Whew. Enjoy!

One is a National League All-Star and the reigning Homerun Derby champ, the other, a 36 yr old balding man with a wiffle ball bat. It’s a showdown for the ages as Batting Stance Guy goes head to head with the Milwaukee Brewer’s Prince Fielder in the first ever “Swing-Off!” And if you haven’t seen Prince do his thing before, we gotta tell you, you’re in for a treat. The other guy, well.. you know.

Just as no good U2 concert ends without a rendition of “With or Without You”, there have been few appearances in the last year for BSG that haven’t involved a Kevin Youkilis swing. Back in February BSG took a trip down to Florida to visit with the Red Sox at spring training and got some face time with the man with the best stance in baseball. Learn everything you ever wanted to know about the AL All-Star, from why he sweats in his own eyes to why he based his warm-up swing on Jeter’s (yikes) in this 5-part “interview” with BSG. Enjoy!

It’s that time of year again, so we thought we’d give BSG a challenge. It’s the full lineups for the 09 NL and AL All-Stars, each in under a minute. Tell us how he does.

11. May 2009
REPLAY : ESPN has been re-running this E:60 piece starring BSG, so we thought, why not us. It’s one of our favorites, so if you haven’t seen the Art of the Stance, you’re in for a treat, and if you have, suck it up and watch it again, it’s good.
